Thoughts on Creativity

 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 NIV

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

    So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them;    male and female he created them.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,    I know that full well.

            I absolutely love to witness the beauty of God’s creation. I am enthralled by the majesty of the sky, the splendor of sunrise and sunset. Seeing the design of flowers and birds fills me with great joy. Creation loudly points to the Creator. The wonderful thing is that we were also designed by the great Designer. The Bible tells us that we were made in God's image and are fearfully and wonderfully made. Every inch of our being was carefully constructed with intention. We share some attributes with God. We are His masterpiece. He makes no mistakes. That means that we possess dignity and value. We have immeasurable worth. God’s divine signature is impressed upon our souls. He delights in us. The color and shape of our eyes, the texture of our hair, our complexion, and our personality quirks were all designed by God. We are beautiful because He is beautiful, and we reflect Him. He created us with purpose and meaning.

As human beings, we share some of God’s attributes. One attribute in particular is our ability to create. We are creative beings because God is our Creator, and we were created to give Him glory. One way we give God glory is by exercising our ability to create. God created the heavens and the earth. He created trees and the stars. He created the whole universe. He fashioned us in His image. As a result of this, we are creative beings. Our creativity is not limited to artistic endeavors. The way that we think can be creative. We can be creative in the way we provide solutions to problems.  We can be creative in how we communicate with each other. We can be creative in how we cook meals. We can be creative in how we parent our children. We are creative beings because God is our Creator.

The primary ways that I express my creativity are through writing, photography, singing, cooking, and  self-expression through fashion. Being creative teaches me about purpose. I feel a sense of renewal every time I pick up a blank piece of paper and express what words prance in my mind. It is healing to create.

So  let us choose to implement our creativity. Let us not believe the lie that tells us that we do not have creativity. If we need inspiration, let us look at nature. Let’s look at how the flowers sing with beauty. Let us look at how God created us with variety and uniqueness. God is pleased when we use our gifts and talents to worship Him. God is pleased when we create. Everyone has creative prowess because God created us. Let us seek to glorify Him with the talents that He has bestowed upon us.
